Drive Storage Analyser Free beta

See what's filling your Google Drive™.

A Chrome extension that maps your Drive the way a disk analyser maps a hard drive: biggest folders, biggest files, duplicates and trash, in one place. It only reads, and nothing leaves your computer.

Download the beta (free) Version 0.3.0 · for Chrome on Mac or Windows · install steps below

What it shows you

Biggest foldersTrue sizes, with every subfolder added up.
A map of your DriveOne picture of where the space goes.
DuplicatesExact copies, kept apart from files that only look alike.
TrashUsually the quickest space to get back.
Several accountsEach one on its own, plus a combined total.
Huge DrivesBuilt and tested on a 90 TB Workspace. Scans can stop and resume.

Every row links to the real file or folder in Google Drive, so you decide what to keep. The extension never deletes, moves or changes anything.

Private by design

The extension talks only to Google. Your file list is stored inside your own browser, on your own computer. There's no server of mine in the middle, and I never see your file names, sizes or anything else in your Drive. Read the privacy policy.

Install it (about 3 minutes)

It isn't in the Chrome Web Store yet, so you add it by hand. It only has to be done once.

  1. Download the zip and double-click it to unzip. Put the folder somewhere it can stay, such as Documents. Chrome runs it from there.
  2. In Chrome, type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter.
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top-right switch).
  4. Click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder.
  5. Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Drive Storage Analyser.
  6. Click its icon, then Open Drive Analyser, then Add Google Account.

Updating later: download the new zip, replace the old folder with it, then press the circular reload arrow on the extension's card in chrome://extensions. Your scans are kept.

About the “Google hasn’t verified this app” screen

When you add an account, Google shows a warning that the app hasn't been verified. That's expected during the beta: Google's full review is the step before the public launch, and it takes several weeks.

  1. On the warning screen, click Advanced.
  2. Click Go to Drive Storage Analyser (unsafe).
  3. Google lists what the app is asking for: to see information about your Google Drive files. That's names, sizes, dates and folders. It can't open the contents of your files or change anything. Click Continue.

Please start with one Google account. Google only allows a small number of accounts to use an app during its beta, and every account counts. Work or school accounts may also be blocked by their administrator. If that happens, use a personal Gmail account.

To remove its access at any time, go to myaccount.google.com/connections and remove Drive Storage Analyser.

Tell me how it went

This beta is how I find out what's broken and what's worth building next. A few lines are plenty: did it find space you could free up, did anything go wrong, and would you pay for it?
